Art deco cinemas saved from demolition

BBC News has published a brief article and video (approx. 3 mins 15 secs) about the rescue of The Rex cinema, Berkhamsted, and the newly-named Odyssey (formerly Odeon), St Albans, by campaigner and enthusiast James Hannaway. The 1931-built Odyssey is evidently going to be a massive restoration project but there are hints of how magnificent it will be once complete. The video shows the steel framework associated with the tripling, in the 1970s, of the cinema. This has already been partially removed, returning the main auditorium to full size.
